| Waders in the Wetlands |
Students put on chest or knee waders to seine for aquatic life and then bring them back to the classroom for further analysis. |
| Water Quality |
Along the Texoma shoreline students have the opportunity to test for salinity, alkalinity, pH, oxygen, and turbidity. |
| Soils Investigation |
Students use GLOBE Protocols to investigate soil horizons and characterize each layer. |
| Ins and Outs of Trees |
Students learn how to take qualitative and quantitative data both on tree cookies and in the cross timbers forest. |
| Fossil Hunt |
Students hike to our natural fossil beds to study life from the Cretaceous Era. |
| Animal Tracking |
Using field guides students hunt for animal tracks through out the camp and use their observation skills to record data in their journals. |
| Owl Investigation |
Owls are an important part of the Cross Timbers food web. Students learn how to look for owls in the wild and dissect high quality pellets in the classroom. |
| Ornithology |
Students learn the importance of diversity and distribution through field observations of various bird species. |
| Weather Watch |
Students use GLOBE Protocols and various tools to make a variety of weather measurements; min/max temperature, humidity, rainfall, cloud cover, contrail cover... and much more. |
| Survival Skills |
Students learn the basic skills of outdoor survival including building shelters, starting campfires. |
| Herpetology |
Students will collect, identify, and release local specimens and report their findings to Texas Parks & Wildlife Dept. as part of Texas Amphibian Watch. |
| GPS Scavenger Hunt |
Students use GPS Units to "hunt" for clues around Camp JOLT. |
| Orienteering |
Students learn the basics of map reading using a compass while completing various courses, designed exclusively for JOLT by the president of the North Texas Orienteering Association (NTOA).Beginner to advanced available. |
| Challenge Course |
Team building activities designed to incorporate physical and mental challenges. |
| Boating |
Students have access to our nonmotorized boats including: pedal boats, kayaks, and canoes. |
| Archery |
Students learn how to safely use a recurve bow and arrow while practicing a very important skill. |
| High Ropes |
Students utilize our new state-of-the-art high ropes course. Students also learn to work together and trust each other. Our certified instructors make sure it is a fun and safe experince. |
| Night Hike / Campfire |
Students use their night vision on an exciting hike through the woods. And end with a campfire and s'mores |
| Service Projects |
Students can help us keep JOLT beautiful and complete one or more service projects (See Program Director for current list of projects) |
| Star Party |
Using our NEW high powered telescopes, students gaze into the night sky, learning to identify constellations and other natural wonders. (Oct - April) |
| Fishing |
Students learn the basics of fishing such as casting, setting the hook, techniques, & more. |
| Hike/Monky Bridge |
Over 10 miles of of scenic waterfront and wooded trails. Also, take the opportunity to conquer your fears of hieghts on the suspended cable bridge. |
| Entomology |
Learn about Biological Diversity through field studies of insects and their relatives. Students are introduced to concepts such as Adaptations, Morphology, and species differentiation. |
| Biking Trail |
Our brand new bike trails offer something for just about any age. |
| Raptor Presentation |
The Blackland Raptor Center Presentation will let kids get up close with some of the birds of prey that can be found in this area. The presenters are very knowlageable and have an enthusiasm that makes kids want to learn. Cost: $5/student |
| ORT |
ORT is a scrap of food that could have been eaten, but has been wasted. We measure the amout of waste per group and record the data. (This is done with each meal for every group) |
